Parking ratio: 195%

On the western edge of Canterbury, bounded by the A2 trunk road, this phase of the Wincheap Farm development was the product of an imaginative and creative partnership between Ward Home's designer and Canterbury City Council's planners and engineers. The aim was to create an interesting layout of homes, streets and spaces, with parking as an integral element. Courtyards, driveways and garages provide for off-street parking, while the main spaces accommodate unallocated resident parking and visitors' needs. Two thirds of residents who responded to a post-occupation survey rated parking 'good' or 'very good'.

In the area closest to the trunk road, note the use of spaces, streets and courtyards. At ground level, this creates an attractive environment, with a variety of parking solutions.
