Cherry Orchard Mews

The separate visitor parking bays in the landscaped setting

Information

Location: Littlebourne, Canterbury

Built: unknown

Type: rural

Density: 0 homes per hectare

Parking ratio: 250%

Built in the 1990s adjacent to agricultural and industrial premises, Cherry Orchard Mews consists of a terrace of 8 homes alongside 5 much larger detached dwellings. The terrace is the subject of this case study.

The layout provides a high quality, communal space in front of the dwellings, with parking and turning space adjoining. Residents who responded to a 2005 survey were very satisfied with the development. Garages and parking space to the front of them, plus a separate area for visitors, deal with all reasonable demands placed on this edge of village development.

The landscaping creates interesting views of the built form.

The parking is close at hand, but has been kept away from the well designed building frontages.
