Oaks Hamlet won design awards, and it is easy to see why. Unfortunately, the tight, intimate approach to street design, and the provision of some parking in rear courts, led to awkward on street parking. This was a cause of dissatisfaction among many residents at the time of Kent County Council's survey. However, attractiveness was very highly rated, and quality is apparent throughout.
The car barns at Oaks Hamlet are particularly impressive as they incorporate storage. Given that there is ample parking for all, the design concept is the kind that benefits from on street parking controls.
The survey results suggested some use by residents, but controls could be used to address this.

Generous on plot parking provision should not be questioned when the design of it is good.
