While a lot of effort went into the initial design of a variety of parking solutions at Barnes Way, some of the initiative was lost as a result of a planning desire to include some rear court parking. Furthermore, even though there is plenty of parking for all residents, a minority have taken to parking in awkward locations. These failings were reflected in survey results.
In terms of design and proper use, the two housing squares within the development appear to work well, and reduce the scope for obstructive parking to occur. This is the reason for the inclusion of this site
A particularly successful aspect of the scheme is the central play area. This is very well used, and provides a safe environment for local children to meet and get exercise.
This square benefits from landscaping and good paving materials.

There are other ways of preventing footway overhang, and it is not clear why the blue roundels are included, but at least the bollards are not plastic.

Simplicity reduces the scope for damage to individual elements, and maximises the space available for parking.

Footway crossings can be much better access junctions for small to medium groups of housing, especially where pedestrian traffic is high.

Despite the irresponsible parking of a few residents, the central play space is very well used.
